Travelogue Part II: Day 03 - Day 05 (Amsterdam)

On the evening of day 3, we touched down at Amsterdam! This is an incredibly beautiful city :) We were easily impressed by their gorgeous toilets (first thing we visited after we've landed) and it set us in a super good mood for the rest of our days in Amsterdam! We took a while to figure out where to take the express bus right into the city center, but after that part it got easier. it was really convenient because it goes direct to where our hostel is located!

Checked into our hostel and off we go to the nearest supermarket to grab drinks (our fav hobby this entire trip is to get water from supermarket). R loved the mineral water, by the name of SPA, at Amsterdam the most, and I have to agree that it's one of the nicest tasting mineral water I've tried as well! Too bad they are not available in Singapore. We've also gotten some strawberries to munch on cos they look too delicious, and they are indeed really sweet! :)

Dropped off the drinks back at our hostel before we headed out for dinner!

By then it was already around 8.30pm in the night (Hahaha got the timing from the clock in the above picture, and the skies were still rather bright!) thankfully summer nights in Europe only turn darker after 9pm.

Made our way to The Pancake Bakery! R did some research and heard that this place was good :)

These pancakes they have are quite unique, first time trying these. It's the denser type of pancakes that's fused with ingredients. We had a ham, mushroom and cheese one! Was good :)

Also shared a sweet pancake! Their portion was so big we were extremely bloated by the end of two pancakes. But definitely satisfied.

And when we left the restaurant at 9 plus in the night, we witnessed the beauty of Amsterdam city - their mellowed lights across the bridge, incredibly neat architectural styles, and super peaceful and safe vibe that the whole city gives.

The next day! Free breakfast at our hostel hehe love their breakfast :3 om nom nom. Then off for a full day out!

We walked over to the "I love Amsterdam" structure in the morning (really near where our hostel location) and snapped some photos. Then off we head to the Central station for a bus to our destination!

We're leaving Central Amsterdam for a half day trip out to Zaanse Schans Village :D where all the traditional windmills are!

I'm so glad this village is our first destination of our Amsterdam trip, it has all the flavours of Holland/Netherlands! Windmills, nature, clog-making etc!

And my first time seeing a real daffodil in full bloom.

R sitting in huge clog!

Loved the village :) but it was really sooo cold. I was freezing because of the wind (essential to power those windmills hahaha) and yes I obviously wasn't well-prepared in any way for the cold weather. Brrr.

Left the village at around mid afternoon, with our customized calendar (catering to tourist moolah but yes it was pretty so we got it heh :b)

So I now have a new calendar for year 2014! :D

Headed back to Central Amsterdam and all that in our mind was to FIND FOOD :D hehe

Went into a random cafe and had some really good chicken/raspberry crepe & omelette. YUMS.

And of course you can't leave Amsterdam without trying Mannekenpis fries!!!

So apparently we went on a food craze and I demanded for a soft ice cream even in the cold weather. HAHA no really, ice cream are meant to be eaten in cold weather. lovely~

So the food craze never ends. Tried their stroopwafels! Me didn't like it much. :B it's like biscuits instead of waffles sobs.

That night we went home with another box of strawberry that caught our eyes at the supermarket. Strawberry + Ananas flavor! meaning it's strawberry and pineapple. HAHA GOSH it was the most sour thing on earth.

That same night we also bought a kit kat chunky but did not eat it and left it on our table. AND IT WAS THE WORST MISTAKE MADE. D;

At around 3 plus/4 plus in the morning, I was woken up by a repeated thudding sound in our room. I listened for quite a while and it didn't stop, truly scared me so I decided to wake R up (he was so fast asleep how come he couldn't hear those noises in the middle of the night?!). When he woke up he told me it must be the rain outside splattering onto the window panes HAHA PLEASE LOH THE NOISE WAS IN OUR ROOM.

then I switched on the lights. and the sound stopped immediately. CRAP I was so nervous and R decided to clear our barang barangs that were on the table one by one. and suddenly he jumped back :O because he noticed the kit kat chunky we had left on the table..was RIPPED APART. No, neither of us ate it.

Both of us got really nervous by then. And R continued to clear our stuff and discovered half a chunk of that kit kat behind the television on the table. AHHH. and then I saw a rat. D: yes, and then I saw a rat. HEART BEATS FAST. Then R saw the rat. Thankfully it was quite a small one :( but why do rats like kit kat. So anyway R cleared the kit kat and then we spent the rest of the night/morning worrying.

**okay end of epic event**

The next morning we proceeded to breakfast as per usual. and we approached the hostel house cat to help us resolve the rat issue. HAHA. the house cat dines with people at breakfast! Cutes.

And another day trip out of central Amsterdam - to Keukenhof Gardens! :D snap all the photos of all the flowers day!

All these real tulips look so beautiful they seem fake.

My favourite species!

It was a really beautiful day :D

As for dinner, we settled it at a restaurant near our hostel that night! :3 yums. I had fish mixed grill while R had beef steak!

And then it was our last night in Amsterdam already :(, off to Cologne the next morning!
