Travelogue Part III: Day 06 - 07 (Cologne)

On Day 06 morning we bid Amsterdam farewell and off to Cologne, let's go! Mode of transport: Train :)  For the whole of this trip, we took 6 flights and 6 intercity trains in total. I must say, we're quite an expert with the Europe train taking systems by now! And I definitely much prefer train rides, there's scenery to view and the longer journey duration is compensated by the hassle free 'boarding process' required for flights :)

Arrived at Cologne HBF main station, took a while to figure out their metro system and with some help we finally made our way to our B&B apartment.

It was a lovely apartment but we've got a really *unique* host who gave us some surprise experience at Cologne, haha! Mainly targetted at R :B Headed out to explore Cologne after depositing our barangs!

Starbucks Java Chips to start off the day! :D I'm so happy the barrister spelled my name correctly ;)

The main shopping street of Cologne. Cologne is a rather small city, most of the attractions/shopping district is concentrated in the central area, so all we did was come here everyday!

R and I were so used to cover long distances everyday that, when we're at Cologne, we realized that there's not much things to do. Especially with the rainy/gloomy weather, it just made Cologne seem extra dull and lifeless. Thankfully, we have a list of food to try at Cologne and it kept us preoccupied searching for these food :b

LO AND BEHOLD: this is one of my favourite food from the entire Europe trip *misses it so much* It's called the 'berliner'! This wasn't on our food checklist, but so glad we decided to buy it. It's actually a sugar donut with strawberry jam core. The donut was so soft and fluffy and the jam complemented it so well, hoping that Singapore modifies their sugar donut to this. :D

For lunch, we hobbled into a random restaurant with the intention of trying out pork knuckle, one of these German dishes that ought to be tried out at Germany!

We've also heard that Cologne Kolsch beer are not to be missed. Apparently there's quite a few types of Kolsch beer in Cologne itself, that day we tried the 'Sion' one! And it was really refreshing, one of my fav beers thus far (though I don't drink much hahah)!

and TADAH, pork knuckle cooked to perfection. with mash potatoes I adore hehehe :D really loved the pork knuckle!

That night we bought Movenpick ice cream back to our apartment and INDULGE while watching White Chicks hehhehe, this is the life man. p/s and we finished the entire box ha ha ha credits to R largely.

Cup of Cappuccino to start your day? :)

'Special' Cappuccino! With chocolate flakes and whip cream added into the coffee, me loves. We had our morning tea sesh at Cafe Reichard, a hundred year old cafe right outside Cologne Hbf. That building is so pretty you won't miss it.

Strawberry tart cake just. so. irresistible.

Such an awesome way to start one's day right :)

And for lunch! We tried Cordon Bleu. and most importantly, one of their local speciality - Heaven and Earth with Black pudding! It's basically black sausage with mash potato (earth) and apple sauce (heaven). Me liked it! :D

Okay time for some pictures other then food:

Right outside the old Cologne Cathedral

On one of the many bridges. Rhine!

Love locks on the bridge. HAHA we actually went to buy one lock from the supermarket, wanting to join in the fun and locking our love down, but have never gotten the chance to lock it at any of the love bridges in Europe, we're such fails T.T

On a side note, i really miss the Berliner lehh.
